School visits

Having an author come and talk to your students can inspire and enthuse them in both reading and creative writing. And it can be a lot of fun too!

A couple of different visits I can do for younger children:

Matilda Rose visit

Picture
Matilda Rose loves to visit Years P-2. The kids help her find her lost kisses then we all celebrate with a happy dance. Followed by story reading and discussion about writing, ideas and how books are made. And finally.... find out what I had for breakfast that morning (there's always one kid that asks!)

Listening to your inner critic

Picture
General author visit for Years 2-4. I tell the kids what it's like to be a writer, where I get my ideas from and how I build them into stories. I can also include a short demonstration of how my inner critic nags me to re-write and make my stories better (warning... this is not a professional standard ventriloquism act - you will see my lips move!)

Visits for older children can include a wide variety of topics, covering every step of the book's journey, from spark of an idea through to publication. What do you do when the ideas just won't pop into your head? How do you make your characters interesting? How do you draw the reader into the story?
Talks can also be tailored to suit your class needs.

Visits are charged at the standard Australian Society of Author rates.
